CID Grand-Hornu, Belgium
18.10.2020 – 07.03.2021
The Belgian institution showcased Plant Fever. Towards a Phyto-centred Design in its beautifully restored 19th-century venue.
While testifying of the industrial past of the Grand-Hornu site*, the 650sqm open space of the Magasin aux Foins (a former hay storage building) welcomed the exhibition in a warm environment imbued with soft natural light.
* Grand-Hornu is a former coal mine and, since 2012, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn more about the institution’s history ︎︎︎ http://www.cid-grand-hornu.be/en/Grand-Hornu/
The museum’s high ceilings, red brick walls and cracking parquet floor provided the ideal atmosphere to highlight the 50+ projects.
Thought as a learning path, the exhibition invited the audience to discover the three chapters (1. Plants as Resources, 2. Plants as Pets, 3. Plants as Allies) in a consecutive order - moving from current material experimentations to increasingly speculative design scenarios.
To go further
Here’s a selection of contents (talks, interviews, articles) that were developed by d-o-t-s as part of the show at CID Grand-Hornu and that will help you dive deeper in the addressed topics.
The Visitors Guide
